Hi,
On a site, a person was comparing a group of systems, but the tests also seem to show better performance with Dual 846 over a 246, my questions are:
1. Can the 846 processor be used in place of the 246 processor on dual CPU motherboards like the Tyan K8W?
2. Is this due to the difference in having 3 coherent hypertransport links? Do most dual CPU motherboards have the right interconnect between the CPU's to handle 3 links?

Yes, you can use 2 846s, but there wouldn't be any point to it. You'd be spending an excessive amount of money. As far as the performance goes, they should be the same so long as the drivers and BIOS are the same on each platform. The extra HT links wouldn't affect performance.
