Hello-

I am wondering if a pair of 848's will function in my IWILL dk8x? I know this seems kinda stupid- but I would like to have the ability to upgrade to quad if my line of work ever supports it (audio). thanks-

There's a thread of someone who had many problems with 8xx series in a dual board.

Look at this: http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=19880' ">http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=19880

If I were you I would wait some months to see if the upcoming dual-core CPUs are supported by the actual dual motherboards.

If that happens, then you would be able to build a quad core with 2 chips. That's much cheapier than a quad-board with high power supply, extremely big enclosures, fans, Ram modules, 4 chips, etc.

Keep in mind the possibility of dual-core as an upgrade.
I also want to know more about it.

I posted a thread asking about the dual-core cpus here:

Ryan,
I'm the one who recently posted here asking about using two 850s in a dual board.
All the techs at various companies basically said it "should" work,
but the motherboard people (and those at Tyan, from another poster) said it might work, but wouldn't be supported by them (any issues, you'd be on your own).
I decided after not being able to run with both processors, only one, to buy a couple of 246s and let the 850s sit for the time being.
