Hi there, since this is my fav forum i will ask here.
I'm going to be building a 19" 1U file server for home use (storing video, audio, etc) I have decided to go with itx as it is very small and the 19" racks fit exactly under the worktop in my computer room (meant to be a bedroom).

My question is how much ram should i put in and what make should i choose? (It has to be PC2100 DDR)

Note the board takes a maximum of 1 gig and has 1 slot.

I'm aiming for it to be as cheap as possible.

Oh i do wish AMD did ITX

EDIT: Oh dear i think i may of posted this in the wrong room

This room is fine for server stuff.

As a rule for a decent sort of file server with about 10-50 users 512Mb of RAM will be fine with some fast SCSI or SATA hard drives. Any more users than that or if you are going to use Windows 2003 Server instead of 2000 then 1Gb will be needed for smooth running.

AMD Athlon 2600+ 333Mhz Thoroughbred | 512Mb in 2x 256Mb DaneElec DDR PC2700 | XFX NF2S-ALH with nForce 2 400Pro | Asus GeForce FX5200 128Mb Magic! | Creative 5.1! Live! | Maxtor DM+9 80Gb and Maxtor DM+8 20Gb | LiteON 832S DVD+-R/RW Dual Layer 8x | LiteOn 48x12x48x CD-RW | Full Black server case with 500W PSU | Relisys 17" Monitor | Wireless Optical Mouse | Logitech Surfer | XP Professional SP1

Server: Intel (Oh no!) 2x Pent

I think they do. As far as I know some of the geode solutions are itx or a msall formfactor like it.

The fanboyism issue got worse. I'm gone (for now) got better again, I'm occasionally back.

Don't be stupid. Conroe > K8L SAYS WHO? K8L > Conroe SAYS WHO? No Benches = No Comparision
PortalForums Admin
