QUOTE (Ardrid @ Oct 18 2003, 03:44 PM) Of course it's tempting. If I had the funds I would've been upgraded. However, it's better that I don't have the funds now because it'll allow me to completely redo my rig in the summer rather than just upgrading. FX-55, NV40, ASUS and dual Raptors in RAID 0 are coming your way. Thaaaat's right. Fear it! why you dont choose ATI for VGA card instead of Nvidia product ardrid...

Because he is a fool, he knows a lot about computers I will give him that. But I don't know why he chooses to run with nVidia. He knows that they're product is inferior to that of ATi, and the only reason if they do win at all is because of the "optimizations" they make with their drivers. Its a damn shame to see such unbridaled enthusiasm for such a corporation.
*He also secretly likes Intel.

Come now, let's not attack someone because of their position on a product. I have used both ATI and nVidia and both make good products. Quite frankly, they both meet my needs as a consumer.

Its ok, I know Ardrid on a personnal level. You will most likely see threads such as my last throughout the lifetime of these forums, or atleast as long as we are both active on it.

Why nVidia? When you don't need directX 9.0 Vidia is a better choice. It's more powerfull with OpenGL than ATI is. You can use it in a 3D workstation. A lot of software on that market use OpenGL

Maybe so, but there are about 10-11 games out right now that use 9.0 DX, can't name all of em, I know Halo is one of em though. And all the great titles that are coming out soon, HL2, D3, Far Cry and STALKER, all of them will be DX9, so if you wanna be stuck with your inferior nVidia product playin your old DX 8.1 games *snickers* then thats fine.

registered ram does not improve performance and most unbuffered ram does not have ecc.

Who said it increased performance? I simply said it was more reliable, which is true. As far as you go, Kid, you know that NVIDIA's the champ. DX9 is the only thing stumping them right now, and that is only in a few apps. Just wait until spring. It'll be upon you then. Man, I can see those 8500 days just around the corner.

This is true, as a matter of fact, most Registered ram comes with ECC, i guess cause the companies just figure why not. I've heard though that the Corsair registered DDR400 does somethin like 2-3-2-6, thats pretty good if you ask me. So I guess theres no more of a penelty for the FX, not to mention ram that is very reliable.

With the Corsair memory you would definitely not feel any penalty on the FX. If there is one, it's extremely negligible thanks to the low timings. All things being equal, I'd still prefer unregistered RAM for the simple fact that it's cheaper.

Its too bad GEiL doesn't make registered Ram, or maybe they will come out with some. It would be great, we'd definitly have the lead.

Geil is never going to do that. They're too busy trying to claim the title of "Manufacturer of the Fastest Memory with the Slowest Timings". The registered RAM arena for the FX belongs to my boys at Corsair and Kingston.

Well what do you expect, they've went far beyond what memory should be capable, theres no standard so its not like they have an option.

I think Geil and the other hardcore memory manufacturers out there. They may jump into the fray at some point, but if they haven't now, I don't think they will considering that the 939 FX is right around the corner. They'll just try and make DDR566 with 4-4-4-9 timings
