Hello,

Sorry for my english, cause its not my native language.

I have the following problem.
I bought about 2 weeks ago an opteron 250 and MSI K8N MASTER 2FAR Socket 940 motherboard.

Now with this stuff I bought also OCZ VX GOLD 2 * 512 PC-3200 memory.
Now my problem is : does the opteron/motherboard S940 requires ECC REGISTERED memory or is this also runable without ECC/registred memory.

Cause i heard of an update that the opterons doesnt require ECC - Registered memory anymore.

Can anyone help me plz?

Socket 940 DO require Registered memory.. but ECC is optional..

There are now 2 types of Opteron...

2xx and 8xx runs of Socket 940..

1xx runs on Socket 939..

Opterons 1XX, since they run on Sockey 939. do not require Registered DDR RAMs..

but since Opterons 2XX and 8XX still run on Socket 940.. they do..

Thx,

Well I kinda hoped that the memory controller was the same on all opterons (dual core or not) and that registered or not didnt matter at all . Cause since memory controller is in CPU i thought i didnt matter wich socket it was but it appears it does.

Anyway, greets
