Below is the quick list I've compiled for the new system I'm going to build in December when Vista is released:

Silverstone TEMJIN TJ07S Aluminum Case
SilverStone ST60F 600W (42A/504W) Modular (x2)
AMD Operton 2xx Socket F Dual Core 3.0GHz (x2)
Tyan Dual Socket F 1207, Quad SLI
Maxtor AtlasII 15K SAS 36.7GB 16MB (x2)
Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB 7200RPM 16MB NCQ SATAII (x2)
Mushkin 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800MHz 3-3-3 (x4)
Plextor HD-DVD RW, DVD+/-RW DL SATAII
Plextor HD-DVD-ROM, DVD-ROM SATA
XFX nVidia G80 Series 512MB Quad SLI (x2)
2port Fire 800, 1port 400, PCIe Card
ArtLebedev Optimus OLED Keyboard
LCD, 23" 16x9 Ultra-Brite, 2ms

Hopefully all of the above will be available by December and I'm sure in fact there may be an nVidia 8xxx series.

That should last me from Dec. '06 until say Dec. '09 at which point I'll upgrade the Opterons to Quad-Core (hence why I'm waiting for Socket F) and go from 4GB of memory to 8GB and maybe throw a couple 1TB hard drives in there to. I'm hoping to get 5-6 years of GREAT use out of it before starting a new ground up system.

Just thought I'd share

wow, it must be nice to know you're coming in to about $10,000 later on this year...

if you're looking for opinions, even for a "dream" computer, what you have listed is gross overkill. "Decadent" isn't usually ascribed to technology, but if you actually build that thing, you should have "Let them eat cake" inscribed on your case.

also, how are you going to cool that system? you'll never cool it effectively using stock solutions...and I have my doubts that a 600w psu will be able to provide stable power.
