I installed a x1950 Pro x16 PCIe 256MB video card on my K8WE. I was expecting better gaming performance over my K8W and x800XT. I am not seeing such a large boost in performance. My OpenGL scores are much lower. What is the best single slot video card solution for PCIe x16 that would be better than x1950 Pro?

Better wait upgrading to anything better now might give you a little boost in performance but not worth over 300 dallors I would wait till AMD/ATI comes out with thier new cores because I been hearing alot of news that these cards are good.

Comon the x800XT isn't that much older then a X1900pro
So you could buy a after market cooler and OC it Like I did to my X800pro it was has 500/500 but went and bought a new zelman fan and now I does 610/580 easy at lower temps then with the older cooler at 500/500

I used ATI tool which auto clocks you gpu for you if you want it to.


Also 8gigs of memory O.o what kind of apps are you doing anyways!!
I saw that they are running at ddr333 and that could slow you down alot so if you could you can try to bring up to ddr400 or take some sticks out untill it can do ddr400 But I have noideal what you do for apps and you could really need that THAT much extra ram

I don't overclock. My workstation is too expensive to risk it. AMD on 940 chipset wants DDR333 on more than 6 sides of RAM. I did test with DDR400.

DDR333 is 2.5-3-3-7
DDR400 is 3-3-3-8

I run CAD and A/V projects. Adobe Photoshop CS2 was what I designed around. I can use all four 2.4 GHz Opterons cores and 6GB of RAM. CS3 will use up to 16GB of RAM.

8800 GTS 640MB is working well in BF2 and 2142. PC Power and Cooling 1kW-SR is on its way.

Could wait till AMD comes out with the X2k series I seen alot of rumors that there really fast.

8800 GTS 640MB was a good price and stable. I am upgrading the power supply for Nvidia's x16 PCIe Physics Card.

well seeing how this computer isn't a gaming computer then why use gaming processors go with a workstation card like a Fire Gl series or nvidia's Quadro series. Some of them are pricey but if your programs using that MUCH ram then might as when get somthing that would give more then any gaming card will give.

8800 GTS 640MB did a good job on both A/V and gaming. I was impressed with what I saw out of the 8800 GTS 640MB. If it can have the complex graphics of 2142 and BF2, it should do my A/V projects well.

I just upgraded the power supply to a PC Power and Cooling 1kW-SR and had some major issues with SCSI drives crashing. I hope to have everything back in a week or so and get CS2 reinstalled.
