metalmonster_1208 Newbie Posts: 4 Joined: 02/01/2010	Im temporarily switching my cpu cooler with a friend...i have phenom II x4 955 BE.. how do i remove and clean my cpu from the thermal paste without damaging it? and does the kind of thermal paste matter? cause if it does i might as well get a branded one while im at it..(the tube for the old one was lost) thanks in advance

JC Elite Posts: 1808 Joined: 10/19/2009	Welcomt to the forum buddy.. TIM Remover.. I use and love OCZ Freeze. It works great!! You can also just use Rubing alcohol on a Q-tip to remove the old TIM.. -------------------------

Canis-X The Frozen One Posts: 4142 Joined: 01/19/2009	I believe 80% and above is recommended but I would shoot for 90% just to be safe....the higher the better! Also, make sure that you use a lint-less type material with the alcohol to clean the HSF and the CPU, i.e. a coffee filter.....a little piece of lit left behind can be a real CPU killer as it prevents the TIM from spreading properly when the HSF is applied and secured down. ------------------------- The opinions expressed above do not represent those of Advanced Micro Devices or any of their affiliates.

JC Elite Posts: 1808 Joined: 10/19/2009	I found by accedent that everclear works great!! Got a little to drunk and spiled some in my case.,..it cleans really good!! HAHA!! \ THIS IS A JOKE.. DON"T REALLY USE EVERCLEAR!!! -------------------------

sam.reader Newbie Posts: 30 Joined: 03/03/2010	Never remove the processor and stick it on again over the old thermal paste. Once you remove it you will need to clean it completely to paste another brand of thermal paste. If you don't do it you might as well forget you Board and processor.
