Okay good to go on image size...

Now I took EVERYTHING apart that I could... it's amazing how much crap is in/on/attached/needed for a computer

It's also amazing just how light the case got when stripped... cuz my Tower must weigh 50 or more lbs when fully loaded!

As I am posting this... this is what my computer looks like while the paint is drying:

Now after I have finished I am not happy... painting outside is a PITA and I had far too many runs The paint is meant to look hammered but I had some difficulty keeping it even. Here is some shots after the first coat:

Maybe I will sand the bad spots and apply a 3rd coat next week

My HDDs and SSD (AND BIG FEET, LOL!!):

And boy these fans look soooo much bigger out of the case. 230mm....3 of them!

More to come

the normal OOOHHHs and AAAAHHHHHs!!!!
i like the hammerd paint idea, first that ive seen of it.

i do have a question about your 40gig SSD, are you just using it for the OS?
what OS and how much space do you have on it after the install.

Just for the OS... NOTHING else.... If and when I do games they will be on the 500X4 RAID0....I have 25 GB free of the 37 GB size, running WIN7 64-Bit

BTW... this is a 500X4 RAID0 with the 500GB DOWNLOAD Partition a "short-stroke" in the SB750 RAID config... VIDEO, SOFTWARE and AUDIO are located on the remainder of the RAID

Yeah it is Copper.... Hammered Copper. I thought Copper is a good colour since Copper is used for heat transfer, PCB, wires etc etc etc.... I also thought the Hammered effect would be easier to apply.... boy was I wrong on that. The Satin Black I used on the inside of the side panels was simple and quick! Same brand and style of paint. After taking off the tape things are not as bad as I thought, still not good but not as bad. Here are some more pics:

Here you can see where the paint leak through the tape a bit... good thing about this is that I was thinking of painting the top of the grill too. And after looking at the angle shots (last pic in this post) I think it will look even better. Picture the black 230mm under it

So all in all a work in progress and things may come together with a 3rd coat and some sanding

QB

btw... no comments on the End Table "Case"??? Thought that would get more response

..... who needs a case. This sucker is running 2-3C cooler then inside the HAF

you lost me at raid-lol
i know nothing about raid, yes i am sad, but i wipe my drives 2-3 times a year that i only have 1 500gig or higher in each system.
i am really starting to think about a 64gig SDD, there are some good ones for under $200. i guess i need to start doing some research on them.

-dimwit-

i think i like the new case better-lol

As Anand says.... single biggest boost to system performance you can do. I love my crappy SSD... I can only imagine how good it would be to have a better one. Just think, this 40 GB handi-capped Intel makes windows reboot in just over 40 seconds... everything is snappy and fast. The RAID is another story.... screaming fast transfers... Un-RARing files in the same spot is retarded fast...

Caviar Black 500GB are dirt cheap right now (my source was saying he could get them for under $50 CDN)... $200 for 2 TB of screaming fast storage... sounds good to me. I think what I paid for mine was roughly $270 over the span of 1 year or more.

No problem... I am no expert, but I have learned a lot... btw... you will want a backup drive. I have a 2 TB Hitachi in an external NexStar 3 e-SATA enclosure to make sure all those files are safe. Acronis is an awesome awesome software for backup!

So I was looking at this small piece that covers the top PSU/WC port... and I wish I could have made the entire chasis look like this!

This was just one coat

Okay... so it is more than 24 hours after the painting and now time to get things back together.

First pic is my attempt to do something with my wires on the cheap. I think I did a pretty good job... although insanely time comsuming to do

Next 5 pics are of the finished 2nd coat (more than likely will do a 3rd at a later date)

Here is a pic of the main problem I had with painting outside... keeping it even and avoiding the runs

The next two pics highlight that top PSU/WC port and how good just one even coat of this paint looked on this small part:

Next 4 pics are of the Molding added back and all the other plastic parts. Also painted the bottom PSU mount system black which stands out nicely.

Now for the final set of pics which have everything back together... I am glad I decided to paint the inside of the side panels Satin Black... really helps to highlight the back panel ports used to hide the cabling.

Now to dismantle my End Table computer and put everything back into it's proper home... so I will be back once I have it up and running again

TTFN

Thanks man... I learned a lot. Also have some thoughts and ideas on what I want to do next... and still have things I need to do. Learned that the awesome HDD mounting system does not like having it's rails painted one bit!

Work in progress.

Yeah, I fortunately had the foresight to tape mine off when I painted my case....sooooo glad that I did too.

Yeah... I had sooo much on my mind, so many things rolling around in there, that it totally slipped through the cracks. Dumbass move... now I just hope I can get the drives out since I rammed them in pretty good. Grrrrr. I will try and get them out tonite and maybe grease the rails a bit. I will post back on this issue for sure.

So... forced the drives back out... scraped a few nuckles, but they all came out. Took some bearing grease and slathered it on the rails and the platic trays. Works like a charm. In fact I should have done this from day one with this case. This system worked great, but a wee bit of grease would have made it even better. So if you are thinking of a HAF 932/922 chasis, lube the drive chasis and trays!
