I personally use Tesla Thermoelectric Cooling (solid-state active heat pump which transfers heat from one side of the device to the other side against the temperature gradient (from cold to hot), with consumption of electrical energy).
This uses the Peltier effect to create a heat flux between the junction of two different types of materials.
My devices are still very experimental, but for a standard Venice 3000+ 939 CPU it seems to work fine.
The solution is not to cheap, but since I can get and test the matherials any way... I don't see why not to use them.

The CoolIt Freezone and the Vigor Gaming Monsoon II have been out for a while, so while I wouldn't call the use of Peltiers "experimental" it would certainly fall into the realm of "novelty" with utility.

They're experimental for me...because I did not buy a pre-manufactured device. I built it myself.

***Sorry OP, off topic question***
What power Peltier(s) are you using?
