well i finally started with the Bamboo case.
designed and rough cuts.
a few pictures now that it has some shape
i just used the MB tray and the Drive Bay from my Kandalf case that was sitting in the garage.
it is painted blue by me,but i will end up painting it black or red (dont know which yet)
i have 10x120mm 78cfm red led fans,but might only use 8-3xtop (exhaust),1xrear (exhaust),2xfront (intake) 2xbottom (intake)
i will see how my temps are and will add a couple in the side if needed.
the cutouts in the side will have metal mesh (type unknown)
or i might use acrylic instead-i am still deciding
i hope i can get most of the cutting and cnc programming done this weekend (i will use our cnc to make the cut outs).















i havent cut my sides yet,and i have to cut a wire hole in the MB tray.
i have 1.25" of space behing the MB tray for all my wires.
i might also cut out the back of the tray and put a fan on the backside.
i also am going to turn the PSU horizontal and center it in the upper back part.

i should have more pictures by monday

I love simple designs, todays ugamatagh cases are just too ugamatagh for their own good, but one thing bothers me inst bamboo a very good insulator????

and them are a lots of fans

Looks amazing so far, I can see what you mean about the Bamboo wood looking so nice as well... I can't wait to see how things progress...

About the conduction issue that was mentioned... any wood and plastic will have insulating properties, so cases with large perspex side panels etc will be no different...as long as there is good airflow to compensate (which you have incroporated into yours - Wow 10 fans....) then it should be fine.

ok i got to spend another 6 hours on my case.
most was behind the scene,had to cut out the back of the cage to lay out for the PSU (i have a great idea for the PSU-you guys will love it).
i had to cut and grind the bay drive so the cover would fit.it was a tool free case so there were a lot of metal tabs that i had to remove.
also removed the horizontal side support.
cut 3 wire chase holes in the MB tray for clean cable management
cleaned some of the blue paint off so i can sand and prime it for final paint-BLACK it is
.
i also cut in my fan controllers in to the drive bay side,they
will be on the inside of the case (no it wont be a pain in the but to change the speeds of the fans.....,why you ask? because my side panel is going to be attached by magnets-easy on/easy off.
i got my side panels cut to size

i did my final layout , now i have to draw it in autocad then start programming the cnc for thr cutouts.











hopefully the next set of pictures (next weekend) i will have some cutout to show.
parts are starting to come in.
i am going to order the 720 tomorrow,so i just need 1066 ram and another 260/216

Edit: i cant stress enough THIS THING IS HUGE!!!!
final dims 25" tall x 11.5" wide x 21.5 deep.
i think it will dwarf my 260 (uh-oh is "dwarf" a PC word?)
i have had smaller night stands-lol
i could have made it smaller.....then agian, i could have made it bigger-lol
i would like to intergrate a computer into a desk, shouldnt be too hard.

Wow, very cool that you have a CnC machine!
Can you use aluminum in it as well?
With your designing skills you could have integrated heatsinks / hidden wires L.C. etc etc and put Lian Li to shame with the a machine and brain like you have!!

Still though, the bamboo looks pretty sharp on the edges

It really is coming along now...that wood is beautiful isn't it.... I think you could easily incorporate that into a desk if you wanted to.... you could just make that into a pedestal of one end of the desk....maybe add a drawer or shelf above the PC to add some height to the pedestal.... make a drawer unit or cupbaord as another pedestal fo rthe ther side of the desk....and then the desktop in between the 2 pedestals.... and in that wood as well....maybe a leather inlaid top to finish the desk top... a nice dark green or brown leather inlay..... or maybe even a toughened glass top for the desktop...!!


I wish I had the skill to do something like that....!!

Part 3

got a couple hour in today and got the parts run on the cnc.
i did a few cutouts ,still have to do a few more.
the pictures are of the front,back and side.
i still have to sand them.
threw a coat of black paint on the (whats left-lol) of the metal.
i will be able to put a good 7 hours in on it tomorrow so i should have more pictures (hopefully assembled)
i thought about doing some inlays, like the one i did for my company( our logo)maybe on the next case.

oh by the way the guy that runs the cnc is a scot and is a fan of sean connery.
i printed the picture that was posted on the forum and gave it to him-lol


this was the test one ,it is in our break room, the perfect one is in the conference room.

i know why i waited to build this case-I HATE WORKING WITH BAMBOO,to many splinters,blowouts,tearout,etc....but this will be well worth it.

Looking amazing so far.... I bet there's not much limitation to what you can do with the access to the machinery you have.....!!

I think some inlays would be stunning maybe you could trace something really fancy and some ebony inlays would be a striking contrast against the bamboo... expensive though maybe...???

Part 4
got the cutouts cutout all the way.
finished painting.
cutout grill and painted it.
made my PSU shelf-thought it would be better than screwing it in from the back-i thruogh a quick coat of polyurithene on the shelf to see how it looked
i gave everything a quick sanding.
i still have to sand each cutout (that is where my kids come in) and paint them.
i did a dry fit to make sure everything fit -perfect.
now i have to take it all apart agian,i have to install my MB and set the back panel for the IO shield and expansion slots,drill and mount my power buttons (they are going inside also)
i have to finish sand everything, final assemble,1 more sand then start to spray finish on it.
then put in the cage,mount the grills,drill for my magnets,mount the shelf,fans.....
so i have at least another 12+ hours to put into it.
