Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME GTX 280 (GTX 260 / 280 / 285)

reviewed

xbit labs review

clearly a few concerns with plates not sticking well , but its the best on the market right now and puts the stock cooler to shame.

I will do my own review as well once shes up and running. Ordered fed ex 2 day so it should be in come Tuesday or Wednesday.

I also ordered an added ram HS set due to the install not being made for 2 sides of the ram on the 285 GTX. This was to insure all the ram will be cooled with these.

Thats what she will look like all done. That's zotac's version and my GPU is a zotac 285 GTX so its going to be Identical.

BUT, I wont leave the 2 rows of ram un covered and un cooled. They will ALL be cooled and any and all other areas I think that can be enhanced with low profile HS's .

Final

That looks like a freaking insane graphic card. It should tear apart crysis.

If you have any trouble with the stick on heat sinks as i have, I use Arctic Alumina Adhesive and AC5 mixed@50 precent.
If you use Arctic Alumina Adhesive alone you will damage your ramsink's or mosfet's if you have to remove them on a not so cool mod.
FYI ive messed a few cards up with stick on heatsinks.

Not my first rodeo when it comes to these HS,s.

Key is to make sure you clean the ram and what ever else they stick to with a 4% mix of rubbing alcohol and then a eraser.

Done right they stick well, Some times we tend to get to excited and to much of a hurry as I have seen people do and miss this near entirely.

Now tell Monday to get here so she will ship already lol. I have high hopes for this cooler mod.

Just love my 285 GTX and this makes her truly uber.

lol I would NEVER play crysis with 16x aa.

Far far to much for crysis. 4x aa is about ideal with very high settings and crysis 1 and 2.

but yes at very high & enthusiast settings this GPU rocks crysis with 2x and 4x in AA in game.

@ 16x aa in game she slows to a crawl lol.

ALL and I mean ALL 48 of my other games I can run 16x aa with respectable frame rates.

Crysis has ALWAYS been the most demanding.

What is your rig?

That cooler looks great Guru, when I had a 4850 I was considering getting something similar (Accelero Twin Turbo) but at the time it wouldn't have fit in my case.

So BuckShot3280, are you running 2 4870's in crossfire or are you running 2 4870X2's in crossfire?

Ok first tests are rolling in.

New HSF installed and fully working. Its total noise is at 25 DB full speed.

As you can see the temp drop is even more dramatic then expected.

The later....2 4870x2's in crossfire.....4 GPU's, 4 GB GDDR5...I have pics posted of my rig in a couple of places on the show your setup thread.

Looks like some neat stuff there, Guru. I use an aftermarket cooler on my 4850 with some ram heatsinks on the VRMs and, well, the RAM themselves lol.

I had a question though: What kind of thermal interface did you use with those heatsinks? Obviously, thermal grease won't work, and thermal paste took too long to set with them always being upside-down and not having enough heat to cure properly, and the thermal tape that came with my heatsinks is extremely crummy and never really took despite cleaning and moderate amounts of pressure. I'm currently using an off-brand thermal tape with my heatsinks, but it's so thick that most of the benefit of my heatsink is negated by the thickness of the tape itself. Any advice on what to use?

But anyway, it looks stellar. Nice addition with the "heat bridge" to keep GPU temps from messing with the rest of the components on your mobo. I like the 120mm fan pointing directly up at the card too. Is that exhaust or intake?

Intake and there is a hole in the bottom of the case to add virgin cold air.

as for thermal interface on the ram HS's.

I used the stock and I don't care for it ether.

BUT its working well enough I can run them 730/1600/2800 clocks rock solid stable even during the summer months now.

Awesome job GURU!!!! I replaced the heat-sinks on my old 4850 and 4870 and they really dropped the temps. I haven't attempted the procedure on the 4870x2's yet as I don't think that they make them at this time, at least I have not looked for them lately. I did find some water-cooling blocks for them but as I am not water cooled yet I don't want to invest in that yet....maybe some time in the future.

Again, great job!!!!
