Hi, I've had an old 14inch monitor in my room now for near two years, and I'm getting pretty sick of seeing it. So I thought I could have my first bash at a proper mod project - I came up with one idea:

A computer and monitor system all in one - almost like an Apple. However, space is rather limited so my dad came up with the idea of using it as a case for a system (and not a monitor). What are your suggestions? (I would love to hear them).

The colour of the monitor is a horrible yellow/beige mix, how would I go about changing that to - lets say a matte black? (i.e. what kind of paint would I be needing?)

That Idea has been done, my brother took an old 17inch crt built a p3 in the dead space, bought a brand new 17inch flat screen and fitted the new screen on the out side.

best paint for plastic, go to a hobby shop and buy car model paint.

Oliver be very careful in opening up a CRT. The voltage stored in those things can kill you quite easily. /blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' />

Thanks for the concern Mikey, however all is well. It was unplugged for many months/years anyway so the risk was reduced, it has now been gutted and I'm still here /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

You should be okay just dont put your finger under the suction cup or you will become very dead /tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /> . You should make an acrylic case for it and light the case.

Pointers I'm in my mid 20's he's only 16, It looks kinda crappy but it serves it's purp...the only tip is 15inch is too small, he had a prob with his psu, It's mounted on the backside, but when it's set up you can't tell

um... whoops, we did this with a non colour monitor and bashed two with baseball bats (metal) and just before we bashed them we plugged them in and they worked lol, and i actually had to pick up all the peices after i bashed the heck out of it, i dont know why i or he didnt get electricuted but we were busting open capacitators and touching the suction cup, blew open the little glass bottle, did it all and nothing lol

Wow. Maybe it only shocks you when its plugged in but I thought the capicators held enough charge to own you.
