Hi,
I'm currently running a small peer-to-peer network using 10/100 NIC's.

If I upgraded to 10/100/1000 would I notice any improvement? There's not really any noticeable lag whilst gaming at the moment.

Thanks.

You won't for a small network. We don't even use a fully gige network for hundreds of people. Having a good NIC helps more, and making sure you don't have filesharing or worms bouncing around the network will keep you pings low.

As far as gaming is concerned, there will be no difference. If you are downloading files from another machine with a Gig interface then file transfers will be MUCH faster, but this will only be the case if all the hubs/switches between you and the other 1GB connection are at least 1GB too. It don't help plugging into a 1GB connection and joining the 2 with 10 or 100MB. I have a 1GB 8 port switch and transfers are bliss , although 100MB switched is pretty decent on it's own.

I think the only real use of 1Gbit lan is for big rendering farms like ILM or Pixar this kinda people

1GB LAN is very nice for LAN parties where file sharing goes on and when you need to transfer large movies or something around your house. Wireless LAN is the worst for this, but 100Mbps isnt bad. I prefer GB LAN and use it on all my comps.
