As cheap as freaking possible.

The wife's current system is a 1.2ghz athlon (i believe the first series of 1.2ghz athlon ever made.) and 768megs of pc133 ram.
Sadly... she has a 160gig and 300 gig hd for storing anime and an Ati Radeon 9800 PRO 256meg video card.

I need to find a way to build the cheapest possible 1.8ghz 939 system or 2ghz 754 system.

All I technicly need is a Mobo, ram, and processor.

I've tried newegg and outpost, But they're not cheap enough.. heh heh...

anyway.. any help would be appriciated... I couldnt think of anywhere else to ask for help on this subject. thanks in advance.

(God it's been a while since I posted here....)

get a sempron 3100 they run games great for the money. Or any semp 754 for that matter.

also it may help to know what amounts of money that you are willing to spend.

Ok.. the amount of money I'm willing to invest.... lets see.... My wife just had our first baby... so... uh... as little as humanly possible? maybe like $400 or less? Emphasis on "or less" hehe...

Wife's system is a highly modified old compaq that actualy accepted a processor upgrade (used to be an 800mhz duron, but maxed out at 1.2ghz athlon) and it's dying, fast.

I understand you want to build a cheap gaming rig but, have you considered just picking up a console instead?

In the long run it'll be cheaper for you unless there are some specific games that you really want off the pc

I currently own a Ps2, Ps1, xbox, game cube, snes, nes, 2 gba-sp's, dreamcast, sega master system and i believe we have 2 nintendo 64's -Edit- I forgot my Coleco Vision, But that doesn't work anymore.

Me and my wife are both avid gamers and have been since our quite recent child-hoods (im 23, she's 20). But sadly a console won't allow us to play recent games together on the PC such as City of Villains and the like. Cov itself runs like crap with pc133 ram on a system... We do get much enjoyment out of our consoles and probably will never be able to part from them due to the nostalgia and the fact that I'd love to start our son (currently 3 months old) on the NES and work his way up. That way he might gain an appriciation for the finer arts of gaming over the years.

But I'm rambling.. so.. yeah... Need a pc.. Cheap.

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 is pretty good.

It accepts both AGP and PCI-ex video cards is stable and OC's well.

It is what I plan getting my cheap [content edited] bro when he is due to upgrade.

I agree here.
The ASROCK is what u want, never seen a bad review on it yet.
Cheap, stable and PCI/AGP.
1.8ghz A64 would be the G O.
Corsair / Geill and many other have good value RAM.

Wait a second here, what games? My onboard GeForce6100 is more than enough for most games and it came with my motherboard all for $60

I built the PC in my sig for less than $300.....w/o CD Burner and XP. It can be done.

I say this as a recent new father myself, (my daughter is 14months now):

just when do you plan on having ANY free time to game now that you have a kid?

My mother likes to take my son for the weekend roughly twice a month. That's 4-6 days out of every month that we get to do whatever we feel like. Not to mention the 3-5 hours on the weekends he stays with us after he goes to sleep. We lucked out actualy, at 1 month he started sleeping from 7-8pm till 6-8am without waking, ever. Only downfall is he doesn't nap during the day.

Anyway. I'm very impressed with the responces and prices you guys have come up with, I didn't even know Asrock was a mobo company (usualy stick to abit). Thank you for all the reply's, and I'm sure my wife thanks you as we just found out today that her main 512 stick of pc-133 is starting to tweak out.

Yaaaaaar!

Oh, and for divi'ing up taking care of our son, it goes like this.
Wife: Cade's screaming, change him!
Me: I work nights, I take care of him during the day while you're at work. It's the weekend. The whole weekend is your turn love. Hop to it.

Which usualy results in me getting punched in the arm.

yeah, i got punched in the jewels, i dont say much anymore

just coz they sleep early on doesnt mean you're outta the woods. wait til the 'teeth' start coming thru. yeah. random sleepless nights from 6months on to 2 years.

but yeah, mine's bedtimes is 7 to 8pm as well, which gives me about 2 or 3 hour window of opportunity to game. though most of that window of time is hogged by having to pay attention to the wife too. ugh. /dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' />

but yeah, sempy + socket 754 + nvidia 6100 integrated card + optional PCI-E upgrade path = best bang for the buck. and it can be done for around $300 budget, depending on hard drive/cd rom/case/monitor you can carry over to the new system.

Gunna have to go with the Asrock mobo for the agp (current video) and the upgradeability (is that a word?) to a pci-express card later on. along with the 939 series of cpu that allows a chance to upgrade the processor later on also.

But I do thank you for the advice and appriciate the research you guys did. Definetly cool of you all.
