Hello,

Recentely I purchased a ASUS Crosshair motherboard that supports the AM2 processor.

I have been looking at the AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor lineup and in particular the Windsor 5000 and have noticed that this processor basically compares to the FX-60 but with a smaller cache.

I do a lot of gaming, and application design in which I have been running on a workstation that is utilizing the FX-57 processor.

I don't understand why the Windsor 5000 is so difficult to find, I see that it is listed on Newegg but overpriced compared to the AMD price listing and other sites that are out of stock with this type of processor.

Based on this what would you recommend to me as far as the best processor for this type of motherboard?

If this was your rig that you are building what would you choose?

Thanks!!

based on your motherboard option, i'd guess budget isn't the main concern here, but correct me if i'm wrong. would you consider overclocking? if so, you can get a lower end CPU and squeeze FX-62 performance out of it. if not, maybe you will have to spend some extra cash to get a nice CPU for what you want. i'm not sure if cache amount is a good thing to have when it comes to application design, but i do know that it doesn't really make a noticeable difference in gaming.
i'd tell you to get a nice X2 4600+ since those are very powerful CPUs too, but again, i don't really know about cache importance in application design...

Thanks guys for you replies.....

To answer axy1985 I really have not done a lot of over-clocking, does not mean that I won't do it but..........

Just curious you recommended the x2 4600. Why this processor then the x2 4800 or 5000?

Thank you. I have also copied this post to the General Tech Chat.
