Hey I just build my game rig. AMD-64 Sandy. blah blah blah, etc. etc... I was wondering. I dont realy know that much about platforms as I just play. I am running 2000 and was wondering if games will run faster using xp64? or just XP from 2000 upgrade?

No, as BF2 is not a 64 bit game.

they will be compatible but they will run in 32bit. Most games that are able to run in 64bit are just ports of the 32bit version so they actually run slower under 64bit.
Once companies start develping games that built to be 64bit applications we will start to see some real performance gains.

There are a very few games that are made voor x64, and there is almost no advantage of running x32 games under x64, I've read an article about it in a (dutch) magazine and they said that it made almost no difference. And like nagaty_h said: you have to have check that you've got the right x64 drivers, that could be a problem because not all companies make X64 drivers for all their hardware (even microsoft) I would go for XP.

Games adapted to run in native 64bit will not run slower, never is the case that I have heard of, I'd love to see where you got the info from though.
Theres only a few games that have the full 64bit support, performance improvments are small because its more of an after though from the developers.
Far Cry 64 has an interesting idea, when running the 64bit version there is actually a longer draw distance, more props and other tweaks in the visuals, and with the benefits of 64bit computing, add up to no loss in performance.
With XP x64, any 32bit programs will run fine, and using AMD64 (AMD's 64bit mode in all their K8 CPUs) there is no loss in performance, even though the 32bit is emulated.
There is some performance loss however using Intel's 64bit CPUs emulating the 32bit in XP X64, due to whatever reasons, one rumour being that when Intel tried to copy AMD64, AMD tricked them into missing an important process.
Also almost everyone has said that XP Pro X64 runs faster all together because of the 64bit, and 64bit apps as well, and games certainly have the potential. 32bit doesn't have any performance loss from AMD's side at least.
Only problem is drivers and 16bit code, which can sometimes be found in program isntallers.

The magazine (CT computer technic, Dutch) didn't say that the x32 games run slower, but that it made almost no difference. But like you stated some games will have profit of x64 The magazine stated also that getting all the drivers for hardware could be a problem, even for microsoft devices, wich I found very strange as they made windows x64, why didn't they make x64 drivers for their devices (mices and so on)?

x64 is worth a try IMHO. can't stress that enough. Runs like a breeze here.

from what i've seen x64 XP was quicker to boot and felt more stable. there is a SLIGHT difference running 32-bit games in x64, but we're talking like 1 to 5 fps loss, on tests that were like 80fps or so. you wont notice the difference.
that said, some programs and games even if its tried to run in 32-bit emulation mode may give you problems in x64, and drivers are a big issue too. I gave up x64 after I could never find Canon printer drivers that i needed. kept telling me 'we are working on drivers' for months and months. screw canon, but i'm not gonna buy a new printer, so x64 has to wait for now. (Canon reps, if you read this, screw you. its lame not to make an easy 64-bit driver just to try to force more sales. people will just hate your lack of driver support, and go find another company that cares enuf about their consumers to make proper drivers).
ranting aside, its still worth to try it out and see how it works for you and all your hardward and software. and performance differences are more noticeable when using 2gb and more of RAM, as that is x64's specialty.

This is a proven fact that Windows in the 64-Bit arena takes huge hits from the Unix/Linux operating system that have been 64-Bit for more than a decade. My recommendation to people is that if you are wanting to go 64-Bit, then use a Unix/Linux platform since the driver and application support is amazing. If you are wanting to try Win XP x64, then beware.

64 bit linux? for what, to use openoffice and tux the penguin racer game?
linux will remain obsure nerd OS (i mean that nicely) until they figure out a way to emulate all windows apps and games at nearly zero loss of performance. Wine is not all its cracked up to be.
