I'm trying to play Gears of War on my PC but when I start up the game I get this message:

To run Gears of War with your current hardware setup, you must install the following software update or updates:

+ AMD Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16
+ ATI Catalyst driver revision 8.411.0.0

If you do not install this software, at some point the game will stop and your progress will be lost.

I checked my system information and the processor that I have is x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1396 Mhz. What driver update do I need for this type of processor? I can't find it anywhere.

Also, I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 Series (Omega 2.6.71) graphics card so what's the deal with the ATI Catalyst driver revision 8.411.0.0??

Please help if you can.

Sounds like a socket A Athlon XP processor. For this you do not need a separate processor driver. However, an upto date graphics driver may be needed, this you can find at http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Maybe we should check that your CPU set as running at its correct speed. Run CPU-Z and post the details.

If you are running a old Athlon Socket A processor, it needs to be at least 2.4 GHz (unless its an XP or 64, then you follow the XXXX+) Otherwise the game will severely lag.

Isn't that a very intense game? I don't know how an AIW 9600 will handle that...the 9600's were great in their time, but I don't know how well that card will do in that game..

Minimum system requirements:

* OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista
* Processor: Intel 2.4 GHz or AMD 2.0 GHz or higher
* HDD space: 12 GB
* Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or ATI X700 or higher
* Online multiplayer: Broadband Internet connection and Games for Windows LIVE Silver Membership (included)

However, there does not seem to be a mention of how much RAM is required.

An intel 2.4 is usually comparable to XP2400+ (2.0GHz).

I dunno. I tend to ignore system requirements for the most part. They're usually on the high side. However...an AIW 9600 will have to work pretty hard to keep you satisfied.

By the way, how much RAM and what kind do you have?

This game was a poor port. It is plagued with problems, mostly stuttering, hit epics forums to see what I am talking about. I bought this game, but the stuttering is horrendous to the point its NOT playable.
