Whats happened to all our folders? I hardly see anyone on there with active clients going within the past 7 days. Is this how you show the power of your ATi 48xx & 58xx's!? Get the GPU clients going and lets start going in the opposite direction. Heck, Ardrid is higher than a lot of people and he's been gone for years now!

Fold for Team 34106!

Heres some stats for you number lovers

According to the monthly chart, during December of '08 we were pumping out 150,000 points every 24 HR's and now were down to the lower 30,000's. What's that? And whats really sad is I'm 2nd place in terms of 24 HR Point Production. Are all you going to be beat out by a GTX 285 and a 9800GTX? Lets see 10-20 more users added onto the folding team /w 3-6k points per day and watch it climb sky high!

Well, I'm folding with my ps3, old desktop (Opty 165 and 4850), New desktop (Just the cpu client) and laptop (2.4GHz c2d, 9600m)...

I was folding for DFI-Street (now Angry Folders) but have moved to 34106 since I'm working on being active here more.

Sigh.

My Prescott usually does two cores...but it's overheating like mad, and I'm waiting on a Northwood to replace it.

Otherwise I'm folding as much as I was...granted I don't have some brand spanking new video card...

Yes, we need a recruitment drive. When I started Folding this team was at 62nd place I think. Since the SMP client came out we have been steadily in decline.

We need new blood to Fold for us. Nothing fancy, just install a client from here and have it start up when you switch on.
Even if you don't leave your computer on you can contribute and it won't stop you doing the stuff you need to do, it doesn't interfere with gaming or anything else it just uses the spare capacity you are not utilizing. Other than a little housekeeping you won't even realise it's there.

Have a read in the Distributed Computing forum and make a thread if you have questions.

Yea, the 9800GTX is running 24 hours a day while my GT285 is running on select days and I've jumped down to 25 in just a month of work (Combined the days from the past and todays work)

I have noticed that GPU folding on my laptop (9600m) is not far behind my 4850 and 5870 as far as PPD goes... *****? Granted I had to tweak the client to let me fold on my 5870, it still preforms roughly the same as my 4850.

Time to google...

What we need is some kind of competition, something to the tune of "Forum Folder Of The Month", or a Top Producer\PPD competition. the latter would give new comers more of a chance versus going by points.

I do know that you guys better step your game up, I moved up 4 places today, 9 this week, and I still have 3 more PCs at home to get folding... 1x 2.66Ghz Northwood, 1x Prescott 2M @ 4GHz, and my old Barton @ 2.5GHz.

Good idea. I had my eMachines Athlon 64 1.6GHz 2650e folding for 34106

...btw Frozen you might want to edit your original post, it's not 34016 it's 34106 lol...

it got around 32ppd. But I hope to provide more than that. Once I get my 4850e running MPICH SMP. But I can't get it running yet.

I get to "Client Configuration" and try to run the .exe, but nothing happens. The install.bat runs just fine, but the .exe won't do crap.

(edit) also, http://kakaostats.com/t.php?t=34106

(edit2) nvm on the not working thing, you just have to DL the drop-in .exe from the Downloads page. The .exe that comes with the MPICH stuff is expired.

Just updated my clients using this guide:

My laptop is at ~2015 PPD, no estimate on my desktop yet...

We really do need a folder of the month to go along with the rig of the month. Who organizes the rig of the month anyways? Maybe he/she could integrate a "folder of the month" into that competition?

Fixed. thx for the correction

I'm sitting on my rig in my sig and it seems like the PSU may be dying because it's emitting a very high pitch sound whenever I run the GPU client. Anybody know if that high pitch sound means the PSU is dying? What is it? I know I'm not the first one in this forum to experience it...

EDIT: Googling it, it sounds like the PSU is just getting old and is showing signs of it about ready to go.

EDIT 2: Its called "Coil Whine" I guess, and it may not be me PSU but the video adapter itself. Is there a way to diagnose which component it is? If its the PSU, I can easily pickup a Corsair TX650 at Best Buy for cheap.

That would be me, and since I don't fold, not sure I'm up to it. But you could do it just as easily

You should fold IL. Go big or go home.

...I'm not actually sure if that phrase applies here but I'm attempting to appeal to your pride so that you'll feel like you have two options: either fold, or feel like a little man baby.

I used to fold for the team a while back, and have since switched to The Folding Wolves, formarly Team ABIT. But recently i have stopped folding due to moving. I could here soon start folding for AMD again. I can throw on 6 x 4870's, 2 x 3870's, 1 Q9650 SMP Client, 1 Q9550 SMP Client and 1 Phenom 9950 SMP Client, as well as PS3.

Thats good for about 30,000 - 33,000 PPD.

Gimmie a little time and i will start getting the clients back up and running.

@FrozenSteel

That does not mean a part is going to fail. My DFI U400S-AL would whine like mad when I cranked the FSB above ~250MHz. Hitting the chokes with some hotglue helped a bit.
Now if it is coming from your PSU it could be because its taking a load that it was not designed for.

@cvsi3

I just cant compete with that power... ~8TerraFlops...

Yea, one of my 4870X2's whine, I hate it, but i have enough fans in the case to cover the sound for the most part lol.

Ive put on one core of a 4870X2, and the SMP Client for the Q9650 @ 3.8Ghz. So that should be good for about 5-6k ppd for the time being.

Sorry guys, I had two near-simultaneous PSU failures. The el cheapo PSUs gotten from junked early 2000s PCs that were powering my file server and HTPC died right after a power outage. My HTPC has a Wife Acceptance Factor approaching unity, so I had to put the one remaining good PSU in the house (which is in my desktop) in the HTPC so she could use it. Sure, the HTPC folds, but the Barton 3200+ only puts out 200-220 ppd versus my desktop's ~1250 ppd, so the few days my desktop was out of commission was severely detrimental to my production.

The dying PSU actually killed my file server's board, so it is still not back in service. I did manage to snag a nice dual Socket 604 motherboard, 1 GB RAM, and two 2.66 GHz Prestonia Xeons off of eBay for $20, which will be far faster than the single 1.0 GHz PIII Coppermine. My PPD ought to improve from about 40-70 for the Coppermine to roughly 500 ppd between the four uniprocessor clients that I'll run on the Xeons (they're 32-bit, so no SMP goodness )
