well i finally got my vectra all set up to b a folding machine. i installed the folding application and was dismayed to find out that the 1st core the vectra had to work on had 25,000 frames. i let it run for an about and hour anyway and when i got back, the vectra(to my great surprise) had completed about 300 frames already.

my duron 1GHz machine in the other room had recieved a 400 frame core and had only gotten about 30 frames whiel i was gone.

duron=tinker core
vectra=core 7a

for those of y9ou who are unfamiliar with the vectra line of PC's, they were an older computer made by HP stripped down to b office computers.
mine is suited with a P2 333, 256MB PC100, a 5400rpm hard drive, an HP board, and an MX200.

the duron machien ont eh other hand has a duron 1GHz, an MSI kt133 board, and 512 PC100, with my old 9600XT.

are there easy and hard cores? do cores with more frames always take less time per frame?

......or is there just something wrong with my duron rig? /tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' />

well thanks

oh.....uh yea, that vectra HAS to be doing deadlineless work, go right click on the F@H symbol, configure> advanced tab> and then at the bottom it has some options, so set the option to "deadlineless"

no it would just fold so fast that Stanford's servers wouldn't be able to handle the amount of WU's it's sending in /tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' />

Amber cores - a pain for most boxen. They do matter in terms of research, but it normally drops most AXPs down to 100-140 PPD.

Tinkers - quick to rip through, but they aren't all that rewarding.

I can do most 600-point Gromacs WUs in under 2 days, which makes it > 300 PPD.

Hopefully the X2s are as amazing as they're made out to be and the wife and I really start whupping [content edited].

Just after Christmas I ought to have 2 X2 boxen (between the wife and I) and 2 single-core S939s crunching as the core of our contribution.

Double Gromacs - only had those at work so far IIRC, and they're about 8-12 hours depending on which box they land on - P-M or Preshott Xeon. They have SSE2 support and render quick, but aren't all that rewarding IIRC.

One thing about the double gromacs units is that they aren't limited only to CPUs that support SSE2. I've seen a few of those running in the farm even though the CPU being used was an 800mhz Duron.

If that's a 200-400 point Gromacs, that sounds about right. They're a small RAM-usage WU, so you're bang-on there.
