Do you have "Allow receipt of large work assignments checked in configuration" That's what allows larger WUs to fold on your machine.

No, as you have surmised that is considered a bad thing to do. While we all have fun competing for points we should not lose sight of the fact that we're doing this to find cures. Each WU is equally important to Stanford to find different cures.
