I guess I've succumbed to the dreaded DFI fan issue.

I've emailed them inquiring about a replacement. No reply by tonight will result in me calling them tomorrow at lunch directly at their USA office.

It acted up Monday night, but then resumed operation. I figured it was a glitch... whoops! I ought to know better by now.

The OS works fine, everything works... but the [content edited] Northbridge temp sits at 52C when idle. And I need something that will clear my ATI X800XL... which currently hangs [content edited] near dead center over my NB fan.

D'oh!

The Fish was humour that I really needed at the time, and I figured it was newsworthy that I was losing a majority slice of my F@H output.

I've since found a fan and I'm hoping to order it this weekend and resume ops early next week

Good news Logan.Hate to see a good folder crippled by silly little things.

One of mine has been disabled for a couple of days this week while trying to resurrect some old hdd's I have sitting here.

Did you have any joy with DFI then or not?

They actually pointed me in the direction of a DFI Street forum post about this:

Evercool VGA cooler

So I ordered one today as part of a slew of stuff for the office. It'll be here probably Tuesday-Wednesday next week.

It was that or order a DFI replacement part for at least $30 CDN plus shipping from the States. I'll pass, as this little cooler seems to get really good reviews.

I'm back up, btw. Now sitting at a relatively frosty 41-43C on my Northbridge, where I was running 46-51C before. Also, that's with a fan turning at ~50% of what it was before with the stocker.

If you've got the itch to replace your DFI stock NB cooler, and you have a low-clearance issue like I do with your video card... you can't go wrong with that Evercool cooler. Even used their grease for kicks... seems to work great.

And now I've either tanked my Secondary IDE channel, or my DVD-RW. Thank you, thank you... I'll be here all architecture. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="h34r:" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

That is just too weird that DFI will not provide a free fan for their Northbridge. I mean I have dealt with Asus and Gigabyte about dud fans and sure enough I had a new one to me within a week (for free). That really shows their level of customer service....especially when they know of how defective they are.

But welcome to my world as Bruce Williams would say.
