I know I didn't start till after I joined the forum so I've no reason to doubt them, sounds about right really.

5 years for 3 million points and I'll bet the last 2 million has been earned in the last 2 years on SMP's. I dread to think how long it would have taken on the single core client!!!

It took one day short of three years to make the first million, 13 months and two days to make the second million, and then 32 days to make the third- and I put the Opterons online when I had about 1.3 million points. The Opteron system is just so much more powerful than my old X2 4200+ that it's not even funny. I just nice F@H to 13 and then let it run in the background and I never even know it's running.

Welcome ed6698!

6 million Mizzou_Engineer! With 8+ core rigs putting out big ppd a million won't be that much of a milestone soon...so perhaps a thumbsup only every 10 million for folders like ya self.

ExtremeOverclocking.com's prediction tool says that I should hit 20 million by the first of November. Barring a power failure or a fan failure, I should hit that without even having to reboot the machine. Gotta love the bulletproof reliability of server-class hardware and software

The PSU on the dual Opteron system blew a couple of weeks ago. It was only about 3 years old, a fairly decent unit, and was more than large enough for the system. I am suspecting running the attached system at full bore for years and years probably had something to do with it. I replaced it with an even nicer and larger PSU (Thermaltake RX850- that's what the local computer store had in stock). I don't particularly relish having to replace a fairly pricey and reusable part like a PSU every couple years, plus I've noticed that my system is markedly more responsive and quieter when not running a folding client. I think the slowdown is that FAH is a heavy but not very NUMA-aware load that the OS scheduler and CPU/HT/caches must juggle around when I try to do some other task.

So, color me a bit unimpressed with folding at the moment...
