I was shopping for a new computer today (first in about ten years, so bear with me). I was looking at an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor .


And am having problems on whether or not the motherboard I want (ASUS M2N-X) is compatible. I don't think it is.

It is, since BIOS version "0701".

Sidenote, the parts you refer to are old tech by today's standards, if you are looking for a new computer. Newer stuff is Athlon II, Phenom II & DDR3, it is the mainstream today.

I have a Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 2000 MHz FSB) which came with a latch type of heatsink/cooler. I was the dumby that didn't read the fine print on ebay. So the issue is that my comp is the regular joe schmoe HP DC5750 SFF and bought that CPU mentioned for a quick cost effective upgrade. That being said, knowing what type of computer I have and the CPU, anyone know what brand heatsink will fit in my comp besides the stock heatsink/cooler or what the part number is to the CPU mentioned. Please help!

You probably should start a new topic for your question.

It sounds like you'll need to measure how much clearance you have in that case and compare with the dimensions for the cooler you are interested in. Cooler manufacturers will normally list the overall dimensions with the fan attached. I believe you'll need a cooler compatible with socket AM2 which shouldn't be too hard to find. Good luck.
