Well I'm looking into upgrading my CPU on my current desktop. Reason is because I go around from application to application designing, my current 2 core AMD Athlon X2 7550 2.50GHz AM2+ doesn't satisfy my needs. So this is where an upgrade comes in. I'm looking at an AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz Quad Core AM2+. Now I'm decent with computers and know that the CPU has to have matching sockets, which I believe it does, the AM2+.

Can anyone clear this up with me and inform me and possibly tell me if this upgrade is possible or not?

CPU upgrades will be limited by your motherboard and BIOS. Can you please post with your specs? Its the only way to know for certain what procs your MB will take. Once we know that it will be a simple matter to learn your options.

Not all AM2+ boards support AM3.
Check your motherboard's website if they provide a bios update to enable support for AM3 cpu.

Chakmu, since you mention it is a 2.3GHz 4400+ I assume it is a Brisbane core AM2 processor.

These will work in AM2 and AM2+ motherboards that support DDR2 only.

The processor in question will not work with DDR3 RAM.

I don't think you can switch out the cpu on that notebook. you'll be better off just to go and buy a new one.
