I've read several reviews that are citing idle temps on the stock cooler ~ 30C, and mine is running 44C at idle (ambient room temp ~ 22C). I'm wondering whether this is considered normal, or should I contact NewEgg for RMA?

Help appreciated - this is a surprise Christmas present for my son!

Is Cool and Quiet enabled in BIOS, if not, then 44'C sound reasonable.

Thanks for asking - I read about this 'feature' while researching today. I have not made any mods to the ASUS bios, so if it is not enable by default, then no.

<edit>A quick D/L and review of the MB manual indicates C&Q is enabled by default.
So it is likely enabled (will check tonight) - if so, is the idle temp higher that it should be??? </edit>

with cool&quiet enabled 22c disabled 29 c
seems like your temps are high.
i only get in the 40"s at full load
