I'm looking to build a new Athlon64 system at the start of Jan. I've been planning it for a while and reckon all the components will work together, but if there's anything I should look out for, please let me know.
Primarily I'll be running WinXP Pro, multitasking office apps, dreamweaver, firebird, thunderbird etc. with my digital tv running. I won't be playing any games and won't overclock either (haven't oc'd my 4+yr old machine yet).
Case/PSU: Antec P160 + Zalman ZM400A-APF
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (with a zalman 7000A Cu HSF)
M'board: MSI K8T Neo
RAM: Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT
A/V: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (Videologic Sonic Fury) + Matrox P650
HD: Samsung SP1614C (160gb sata) + Seagate 'cuda IV 80Gb
Misc:
Nebula Electronics DigiTv PCI' ">http://www.nebula-electronics....ducts.asp?class=digitv
I'd have liked to get a 3200+ but can't justify the extra cost at the moment. I'm upgrading from a K7-600 so the 3000+ should be plenty quick enough. The samsung HD might not be the fastest in the world, but it's quiet which is very important (hence i'm keeping the 'cuda IV in there rather than getting another, newer drive). Similarly the matrox vid card isn't much use for 3D but I'll be primarily be using the dual head capability and excellent 2D quality.
Any comments and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
NRH
