QUOTE(don432 @ Jul 16 2005, 09:35 AM)Hi. I'm thinking of buying an oem socket 754 3700. I have a stock heatsink and fan from an xp1600 and was wondering if it would work.
It will not work.
Mainly because the new Athlon64s come with a vastly different heatsink mounting mechanism, that takes the mounting frame off the socket and onto a replaceable bracket that surrounds the processor area.
Solution:
1) You can get a PIB version of the processor, which comes with a approved processor cooler
2) You can grab a cheap Athlon64 cooler from newegg or directron. /wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /> ( But if you consider the final price, you might just want to get a PIB, just a thought. )
