Hi there,

First time poster, nice to see cpu manufacturer with such a friendly forum.

Just been browsing the site and my original question (and reason for joining the forum) was to find out what is the average rpm of my standard fan, which I have. Now I have a new question, I was looking at the 'Recommended motherboards' thread and it makes refers to 'stepping' what is this and how does my chip use it?

Ps. See my sig for my machine specs

Welcome, Fudzy. The stepping which you refer to, is in regard to the processor itself. A stepping is an addition of a feature, or improvement of an existing one etc., within the processor. The latest stepping for A64 cpu is E6. E3 means it is built using 90nm technology, has SSE3, improved memory controller and some other internal adjustments. I believe the only improvement E6 has over E3 are fairly small. Before E6 was E4 and E3. Before that, D0, CG, and so on..

The 3500+ has quite a few families. /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /> Depending on the stepping, yours could either be a newcastle, clawhammer, venice, winchester, or soon to be sempron.
