I am going to be buying an Athalon 64 3200+ just wondering what you guys think is currently the best motherboard for the AMD 64 series, I have heard a lot of good things about the ASUS board with the VIA chipset.

Another question is the Nvidia or VIA chipset better

Thanks

The K8T800 is overall the better chipset. That could all change when NVIDIA releases the nForce3 250 and when SiS debuts their chipset, but as it stands now, VIA is on top.

Well,

based on performance in 3Dmarks, IDE tests and overclocking the SiS755 is the best Athlon 64 chipset for socket 754 shipping now.

However, the chipset is only as good as the motherboard it is implemented on. Currently the SiS chipset motherboards top out at 232 Mhz, so if you want overclocking I'd recommend either VIA or nForce3.

For speed, however SiS is the fastest and has least problematic IDE implementation.

This has been shown by every chipset comparison done today (Via kt800, nf3, sis755, ALI 18xx).

thanks guys, I think I am going to wait for the nforce 3 and the socket 939. Reports are saying about march and I can wait 2 months, in the mean time I will just save up to buy everything at once :0)

do all motherboards that support the amd 64 work for all amd 64 cpu's like the 3000+, not just the 3200+?

I saw a site selling the nforce 3 motherboards, will they work with the amd 3000+?

Yes, all Socket 754 motherboards will work with all the Athlon 64 processors, from 3000+ upwards.
