Hi i just recieved a copy of xp 64 beta today in thepost from AMD ,and was was wondering if it worth installing at this moment ?
I am mainly using this for games and am running a FX51 + ATI 9800 xt on a asus sk8v board with 1mb twin ram .
My main questions are 1. Is there drivers out yet for this OS ?
2. Is it worth trying out or should i wait for retail version?
3. What would i have to do to use both OS at the same
time ( i have two hard drives )
4. Is anyone using the beta finding any real benifits from
using the 64 bit OS

Unless you like bugs and wouldn't mind helping MS out with a few bug reports, it wouldnt' be that good of an idea to use it right now. Unless you installed it as a secondary OS just for messing around with.. and nothing serious.

Agreed. There are some beta drivers but not all. It is kind of fun to toy with but it isn't really productive. There is hardly any 64bit software available. Well, none that I've found though some probably have some. 32 bit software (though NOT drivers (at all!) runs well generally speaking. It has been reported that games are a bit slower while productivity apps like Word, Excel... run noticeably quicker. This is a beta system however and quirks are to be expected.

It can be fun to toy with but if you're happy with WindowsXP (32bit), stay there.

Gaming performance isn't there yet. Stay away from it and wait for some revisions before taking the plunge.

Speaking of games. UT 2004 will be 64 bit want it. (Or combo of the 2).

I think they're planning on making 2 versions, but I haven't really been paying attention to it

Kind of veering off topic, but havent they already released the Linux 64 version of UT2k4?
My friend has XP-64 running, and he also thinks that it shouldnt be used as the primary OS. I mean, its great and all to see previews to what the Athlon 64 can achieve in performance, but its beta, and the bugs are kinda annoying.

-A lot of other crap that I can't remember.
- Wurd?
