I have the MSI mobo in my sig and am ont he original bios that was present on the mobo when i installed it.

I want to upgrade to version 1.4 (newest i think) but am unsure of how to do it. Their site at one point says do not flash from floppy....how then?

I want to let the MSI live update 3 do it but as im at uni with a connection behind a phat proxy firewall it wont allow me to update the bios or anything else with this program. There seems no way of getting it past the proxy so i wud like to know how to do the old fashioned way with floppys? i dont want to go ahead straight away as i know u can scerw ur mobo if dun wrong.

need an instructions for a bios flashing noob

the is instructions in the zip that you download from MSI.
The just of it is as follows.

unzip to a location on your hard drive eg: c:\temp
using a bootable floppy boot your computer and CD to the directory that contains your bios update.
launch the utility by typing is name. follow the onscreen instruction to a T.

I will assume that you have writen down all information from your bios. After flashing my MSI board to 1.4 it reset all personalized items to defaults. Like memory config and boot devices... be sure to record all info. However I used MSI Live to flash the bios.

this is a quote from the MSI how to file

"WARNING!!!!!
DON'T FLASH FROM A FLOPPY DISK!!!!
DON'T FLASH WHEN YOUR SYSTEM IS RUNNING FINE!!!!
DON'T FLASH IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!"

Cheers i got it sorted last nite.......

The reason i asked was becuz wen i booted witha floppy it kept saying "not valid drive specification" so cudnt find the files

DOH iobviously it was cuz my partitions are ntfs and dos dont like it so had to make a fat partition and do it from there.....

I dont notice any difference, bios options are the same, only change is the bios thinks my cpu is running at 65 degrees while core centre4 says what its always sed 31degrees lol
