QUOTE I'm only using 1 SATA drive. Need to install all RAID and SATA drivers from the ASUS CD when prompted by WinXP. You need to copy these to floppy first

Yeah, I had to do this too. The MakeDisk.exe utility on the AV8 CD works very well for making the SATA driver floppy that XP asks for after hitting F6.....

QUOTE (sens @ Nov 1 2004, 07:39 AM) Just checked the usa asus site and they have just added the 3400+ 939 to their list of supported CPU's for the A8V motherboard. Yesterday the 3400+ wasn't listed.

They reference bios 1008, which is on their BETA list of downloads.

You have to go to the downloads for the A8V under BETA releases. Click the BETA button on this website.

Good to see I'm not the only one who fell for the Tiger Direct Deal. Can one of you email me the 1008.003 Beta Bios for the A8V Deluxe? Asus is being slow emailing me back. Thanks for your help.

For those who were able to get their 3400+ to boot by clearing Cmos, who isn't using a A8V, did you try to set the HT to 1000, then save changes? IF you did, did you have to reset the CMOS everytime you turned off the PC?

Hello gang,

ya know, I knew that TigerDirect deal was too good. I ordered it last week and it arrived one day later... wonder why. But I noticed that the CPU package was already opened. I called TigerDirect and told them this, but I decided to keep it.
I havent finished building the [content edited] thing yet, my major concern is CPU fan/cooler, any recomendations? how about AGP?
thanks,
Jim

Similar deal is back.

I ended up getting the MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard after talking to MSI on the phone today. The assured me it WOULD support the socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3400+ CPU. I'll cross my fingers and report back Friday on this combination.

OK. So which new ASUS BIOS works? 1008.002? 1008.003?

The one I could download was 1008.002.

I should be getting the parts for a new machine by Friday, and plan to build this weekend. I presume you can flash from any bootable device, or do you really need to do it from a floppy?

This should be quite a trip - I'm moving up from a 400mhz Pentium. (yea, I know I "skipped" a few upgrade cycles.)

Well I installed the cpu but I dont know if the bios is gonna work because
when I powered up the board I didnt get a POST screen. I got fans and
the led on the board lit up but nothing else. I think I got a bad cpu.
Any Ideas? Anybody had similar problem with thier 3400/939
