I want to downgrade my Compaq Presario Vista PC to XP. I have been able to get most of the drivers to get things running in XP, but I cannot find drivers for the PCI bus or USB connections.
This is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
Model SR5152NX
Compaq/HP refuse to provide any help downgrading and only provide Vista drivers. The ASUS site helped with video and network drivers, but nothing else.
thanks,
charlie

Since its a nvidia chipset based board, you should get the chipset and VGA driver from www.nvidia.com.
The Audio and LAN drivers from www.realtek.com.tw
hw spec: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfr...e&dlc=&product=3397528

Thanks for the response. For others having this issue I did find the right audio drivers. The correct drivers are realtek ALC888 for XP 12/10/07, but I had to find read the microscopic print on the audio chip on the motherboard to figure that out.

Hey. I have the exact same computer as you, and did the exact same thing; downgraded to XP from Vista.
I've got all my drivers too --except the sound card.
I've downloaded MANY drivers including the one you suggested, ALC888... why isn't working!?!? I've been going nuts. I've reinstalled XP even, still no go.
It still remains "PCI Device" in device manager with a huge yellow "?" beside it. Please help, anybody! Why isn't it detecting my drivers? I have the exact same comp as him.

if you're having difficulty identing hardware, dl everest and use it...
http://www.lavalys.com/product...oad.php?ps=UE&lang=en
once you get all the info off your sys, you can hunt down the correct individual drivers.

If you have the exact same computer/motherboard, you may try installing the driver manually, by pointing the ALC888 driver to the device.
Ctrl-panel->System->device manager->right click the device->Update driver->no not this time->Install from list or spec. location->Don't search->Have disk->Browse for the place
where you have the ALC888 driver pack unzipped(ie use the .zip pack from realteks site, not the .exe.)->OK.

Here's the exact driver version I used which worked for me.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/g...ver-5-10-0-5404.shtml
The site is very slow (almost an hour to download) but that version fixed my problem.
hope this helps.

Asus board... hmmm, looks like they pawned it off to ASrock for fabbing, i.e. blue PCB.
How about disabling onboard audio and going with a PCI sound card that is XP compatible....

Hello,I'm having the exact same problem as Adrenaline. Adrenaline:Was your problem ever resolved?
Tried many drivers from Realtek.
I'm looking for other things to try.
Adding a sound card won't do. There's no free pci slots.
Thanks.

Found the solution. You need"Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio"
When I installed that, the Realtek sound was "found".

Hey guys! I had the same problem as you.. got vista installed when I bought the comp. Hate that OS so decided to try the new windows 7 and since that was no better I downgraded to my favourite win2003 srv. Problem was to find the drivers as u know. And like the rest of you the audio drivers where the last I found.. though.. I am not sure I DID find them.. heh. You see, if I look in Device Manager it still says I have an audio hardware with faulty drivers. I did not ever realize what driver it was that finaly worked.. but the sound works anyway. And very good at that. No problems at all.. So I'm letting it be like this. Didnt get any further anyway..
So I just say this as a tip. Make sure it aint working by actually play a sound before you discard the drivers.
