Hey there all,

I built my computer about a year ago, and bought an AMD 62 X2 6000 CPU to stick in it. It runs like a dream, except for one thing.... my computer doesn't register what it is. It just says "Unknown AMD Processor."
My Windows Explorer inexplicably stops responding, and I'm thinking having an unknown processor is to blame.
I'm running Windows Vista, Home Basic 32bit Edition, and the AMD site doesn't seem to have any drivers for me.
Help is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Would need to know what model of motherboard you have to answer your question.
If you do not know then download Everest Ultimate and that will tell you what we need to know.

hey, welcome to the forums

when your motherboard first comes out the bios it comes with can recgnise things that are around at that time,
your motherboard has been around for a while, so the bios is out of date and can't recognise the CPU.
so you need to go to the manufacturers website and find find a bios update for your exact mobo

Alright, let's see here. I got the .iso for my mobo's bios update, mounted it to a cd using Alcohol 120, rebooted, made the cd drive my primary boot device, ran the BIOS flash utility, and it said it was successful. My Device Manager still says my processors are unknown. Any tips?
You guys are great, thanks for your time.

ok, i went to the XFX site, and i had registered a GF 8800GTS 580M 320MB DDR3 DUAL DVITV . so i'm dl'ing the drivers now, although it doesn't appear to have any BIOS updates, which seems odd.

cool, I edited my above post a removed the xfx info...

it's important to provide accurate info when dling drivers and bios files. the wrong drivers can throw you into a format and fresh os install... and even worse a wrong bios flash can render your mobo unbootable...

don't play around with this info. you had the packing slip the whole time and knew this was a evga mobo, why all the games of misinfo and ignorance.. this only leads to causing problems for your pc, not ours..

The latest Bios available from EVGA site should have the following Bios-ID:
04/13/2007-NVIDIA-6A61HP32C-00
(681W1P35) EVALUATION ROM - NOT FOR SALE

Update notice for this P35 Bios:
* Updated CPU Support
* Improvements for PCI cards
