I am having a very hard time! Athlon 64 4000+ Socket939 $419 or Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket939 $485 OMG I am finding this a hard choice. /wacko.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wacko.gif' /> (Canada Prices)

The 4000 is what it is! The 4200 is only 3500 if you are only using one Processor (playing most Games).
Seems to be alot of pros and cons on each side of the fence.
I want this CPU for general use! I do it all, even programs like Lightwave...Ya I know, multitasking, this is the CPU for me, Athlon 64 X2 4200+. Well one would think this is ideal CPU as I do everything. But I must tell you I also love Gaming the most. So that is an easy choice, Athlon 64 4000+ is the one for me lol...um not so fast!! How long before all the issues are worked out?? the Athlon 64 4000 would be the fastest smoothest and hassel free CPU.
I guess the question for me is when will it all turn in favor of the Athlon 64 X2 4200+ ??? I guess that is the main thing to figger out. Any points of view on this issue???? For the majority of people, there is not going to be much of a benefit for the dual-core over a single core processor. This will gradually change as the dual-core model becomes more common, but it will likely take some time.
will that be at the end of the 4000 CPU use?

Both would make a big change for me as I am running a 2500xp at the moment.

I know I am not the 1st one tooo go ummmmm on this issue. I would like to run games like fear etc.

out of those two, i would pick the X2. it will be a good upgrade for now and the future. if your looken for something a bit more powerful for a very close price with the X2, go for the new Opterons. they are dual core and alot of people say that its faster than the X2's.

My next build will be a dual core. Your need is for games, so the of the two CPU's the A64 4000+ would be your best choice today.

As of now, most games do not offer full support of dual-core CPUs. You can still delegate processor affinity between Windows and other programs, so it still makes sense if you have the money to spend on one.

As for the troubleshooting, I believe most of the issues arise from incorrect BIOS versions or programs not being able to switch affinity. Don't use Cool n' Quiet!

My next processor will definitely be an X2 or perhaps a dual-core Opteron (these seem like they are VERY good overclockers and way more affordable than their X2 counterparts), though I am going to squeeze every last ounce of life out of the one I currently have before upgrading.

you're looking at the X2 4200+ and i have the X2 3800+ and have no problems playing any games including FEAR.

the way i see it and the problem i had with my previous cpu, which was single core, is that anything extra running on your computer while you're playing a game on a single core cpu takes away from your game. being able to run my messengers, windows, antivirus, firewall, music and anything else on one cpu and play video games on the other cpu at the SAME TIME is priceless.
