I recently purchased an AMD Athlon 4000 and I'm kind of worried about it's temp. It idles about 38C to 41c and when it loads a game, its reached as high as 61c. I'm using a Zalmon CNPS7000-AlCu cooler for the 939 socket with "Shin-Etsu" thermal paste. I have re-applied the past and got about a 2 c difference. The fan is at it's max speed of 2600 rpm. My system temp is 23c. All I really want to know is: Is this too hot for it or not? Also, if my cpu does reach 70 c, will my pc shut it off before it causes damage? Thanks

1. It's not too hot.
2. Yes it will shut off.
3. Your temps may decrease as much as 10C over time. Both AS5 and Shin Etsu thermal performance improve after 20 -50 hours of on-off cycling.
Cheers,
MM

Also make sure you have the most updated BIOS and version of your monitoring utility (I'm guessing corecenter in your case, as that system temp is rather low).
