First and foremost, my system specs:

About a month ago, after much frustration and a decent period of time, I decided that my motherboard's AGP slot had somehow become damaged, as I couldn't get video even after switching in my gold GeForce 2 MX. I RMA'd it and I just got a brand new motherboard back yesterday from MSI. I put it all back together and restarted it. I got no display and tried switching to the other video port and that didn't work. I checked my video card and somehow I managed to not plug it in all the way. I pushed it all the way in and when I turned it on again viola! I was able to get video. I went into my BIOS and turned off Fast Writes and changed my video adapter from PCI to AGP, and changed my video memory (can't quite recall what the option was) and changed it from 128 to 256.

I restarted the computer a few times because it seemed my HD wasn't being detected. After it wasn't being detected I decided to try and check those connections, which seemed fine. As such I figured I was just going to have to try to re-install Windows, a pain but something I was willing to do just to get my computer working.
Well as some of you know, the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum doesn't recognize your keyboard after you unplug your computer and plug it back in and plug in your keyboard again. So I quickly shut it down after starting it up again and re-plugged in my keyboard.

When I started it up yet again a number of artifacts started to pop up and I quickly shut it down. After that my computer would start up but I would get no display on my computer. At this point I decided to take a break from working on the computer as I figured if I continued to attempt to deal with it my piss-off level would rise to an unproductive (and unpleasant) threshold. Last night before going to bed I tried to start it up again just to see if it would work after some hours had passed. I unplugged and re-plugged in my video card and re-attached both molex power connectors. I started it back up and not only did I not get any display on my monitor but the computer starts to make this horrid, high-pitched noise. I shut it down immediately, and try restarting again, but the same thing: horrible noise and no video.


So today, when I get some time in the evening, I play to switch out my GeForce 6800 Ultra for my GeForce 2 MX and see if that gets me video. I swear though, these problems makes me almost want to buy a bloody Dell or something. Arg! Anyway, any helpful responses will be greatly appreciated. I do want to note that I have already thoroughly tested my RAM with Memtest86 and my PSU is most certainly capable of handling the demands of my system. Thank you.

The scream is from the Video card, and means that it is not receiving power from the AUX connector (or perhaps from the AGP slot, though I don't know this for sure). I think you may have a bad Ultra, since you have been through two motherboards already. I would guess that there is something wrong with the AGP connector of the card, which caused the artifacting when it loosened. I would make sure that the card is firmly in place, that the screw in back is tight, and that you can lock the little AGP lever.

I thought it was a bad Idea plugging in an older 3.3v video card into an agp slot that only supports the latest 1.5v video cards ?
When the latest DDR motherboard came out for the GeForce 3 and 4 cards...they all had a warning label on them that stated...plugging in an older video card like TNT2 Voodoo 3 and GF2 would kill the motherboard.

Am I incorrect ??

This is in no way meant to be insulting but I have to ask because I have seen people do it...but I assume you made sure that neither of the molex connnectors you connected to the 6800U are "fan only" connectors?

Also have you tried swapping the molex connectors around? I have seen issues with a bad lead on a PSU.

Also have you examined the fan on the video card to make sure that it hasn't failed?

Believe me Dell isn't exempt from problems either. My brother in law has a laptop he has sent back 3 times now because the display keeps failing. Don't give up

Well, problem solved. I had one of the molex splitters that came with my GeForce 6800 Ultra connected to my Ultra and my HD, but lo and behold I didn't have that one plugged into a molex connector from my PSU. Plugged that one in and I have had no problems at all. Computer ran World of Warcraft just beautifully like it did before the initial screw up. Thanks guys.

Awsome! I had a feeling it was related to one of the power connectors. Those things make an awfull sound when they aren't well fed lol.
