I got a 3800+ X2 yesterday and got it oc'd @2.6GHz from 2GHz, it runs stable under everest stress test @53 degrees full load on both cores. I got a Arctic Cooler Freezer pro on the cpu and good case cooling. Anyway everything seemed great till I fired up Quake 4, it loaded up very slow and once I was in game the audio started before the gameplay did, then it ren really choppy once started, unplayably so. So I decided to try a dx game and fired up HL2 and it also ran really choppy.

my oc settings:

HTT...........@1040
FSB............@260
mem divider.@166
mem...........@216
cpu............@2602
cpu multi.....@10

specs:

x1800xt
2x512 DDR400
OCZ modstream 450w
Asrock dual-sataII
250gb HDD
3800+ x2

I wonder if its cuz of the dual core or cuz of the oc? I havent changed anything in my pc after dropping in the new proc my old proc was a 3000+ before oc'd to 2.4GHz with similair settings and it was completely stable in games. I have the latest omega drivers already installed also the latest mobo bios etc...Is there any kind of software I have to install?

possibly be the drivers. i don't recommend you to install those garbage omega drivers because i find them having barely any performance increase. try installing the REAL ATI Catalyst driver, try installing the dual core windows hotfix, try installing the AMD dual core optimizer and that should do the trick.

well eliminate the OC,set it back to stock and see if the problem is still there,
im guessing it will be but its god to narrow things down.

K I re-installed the omegas, installed the optimizer/x2 drivers/hotfix and took down my oc back to stock and so far so good. Games are smooth again. I tested after each fix, and it seems it was either the re-install of omega's or bringing back down to stock speeds. I'm going to bring her back upto 2.6GHz and I'll report back, if all goes well that will eliminate the oc as the culprit leaving only the re-install of video drivers as the solution. The optimizer/cpu drivers and hotfix were just installed as a hopeful boost, but I obtained stablity before installing them.

it could be a mix of both, your OC maybe currupting data(drivers??)
are you using a sata hard drive?

No, I'm using an IdE HDD atm. I brought her back upto my oc of 2.6GHz and it seems g2g. Yep, it was the omega re-install that solved it. Thanks alot for the help guys, I'll post if run into any other problems. Thank christ I didnt have to re-install windows, I just did last week and I have it hacked and modded ;D
