It's trial and error since no two chips or boards/systems will be exactly alike, so only you can really tell us what yours can do. In my experience one of the best tools for vcore testing is to run Prime 95's "FPU Stress" test, run one copy on each core (use the affinity setting).
FWIW, I'm running a (Week 37, 2005) 4200+ @ default vcore @ 227x11 with cool n quite enabled which the vcore peeks @ 1.36V under load, @ 236x11 I had to bump the vcore up to 1.375V.
