I built my own system using the Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ AM2, and ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe. I am using Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the updates.

The problem I have is when I run a program that is somewhat intensive and requires more than 5 minutes to run the system just locks up. This has happened with several programs both during normal program operation and also during program installation. I was told in passing that this is a known problem with the AM2s using Windows OSs.

Can anyone confirm this and is there a solution to this problem?

depends what your updates are...did you install the windows dual core hotfix? did you install the AMD dual core optimizer? did you install teh latest drivers (the AMD processor driver)? did you update your bios to current?
