Can the Boot time get any slower?? I have never had to wait so long to boot in my life. Flies through the initial win2k boot, but totally hangs waiting for the log in and after login.

I just put together my A64 3200 on a MSI K8T Neo Board.

Sounds like you've got some issues there. I don't think it's the CPU though. Nice rig anyway

Notice you had a true power, power supply. When i first put the system together, it ate my 550 antec truepower. Now i have a crappy old comp-usa 600 watt.

Still need more power though....

There's no way any system could take down a True550. What exactly do you have in your rig that could possibly suck up that much power?

Sounds like the OS has problems somewhere. I noticed that if you add certain hardware - it slows your boot time down. I installed a Pinacle TV card and that doubled my boot time. Have you changed anything wrt hardware lately?

First time SATA?

After testen with the MSI K8T NEO, boot time is faster with PATA as with SATA.

When WindowsXP has loaded, my new SATA is FAST!!

With SATA during boot sequence (at the moment the harddisk is accessed the first time) there seems to be a pause of 5 seconds........

Do you happen to get another (longer) beep at some point during the boot process (after the bios is done and Windows is starting to boot up) ???

If so, you're hitting a thermal protection mode on your CPU. I had this happen to me a few times. The only way I could fix it was to remove the HSF and then reinstall it. It seems that the retention bracket design for the stock HSF works great for horizontally mounted MB, but isn't so great for vertical ones (towers).

I got so frustrated with it that I went and got the Zalman Cu7000 cooler. Seems to work a lot better.
