Hey there,

I'm hoping you guys might have some insight on what's going on with my computer. I built this thing about 2 years ago, its an Athlon 64 3200 running on an Asus K8V-X motherboard.

It has the stock heatsink/fan and the case has a couple fans, and its always run quite cool. Usually at idle the CPU reads 35C and the MB about 31. (this using Asus probe)

Lately, for some reason, my idle CPU temperature is jumping up to 43C. Everything functions normally, and task manager shows that CPU usage is 0, but it'll remain at 43C for random periods of time. I've turned the computer off then back on to check the temperature in the bios and it reads the same... 43C. In fact, I left it in the bios for awhile once after booting. It showed 35C for awhile... then after 30 minutes or so I came back and it had started to slowly climb up to 43C... couple hours later it was showing 35C again.

The temperature never goes above 50, even under full load (when its in its "hot" phase), so I'm not overly concerned about it. However, it is kind of frustrating because I can't figure out what the problem is.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

do you have cool and quiet turned on? this could be screwing with things...

Nope, cool 'n quiet is disabled.

No I haven't, but the computer ran fine without this issue for 2 years with its current bios.

Nope, virus free.

When the CPU is idling at 43, running Prime95 stress testing it goes to 50.

When its running at its normal 32C idling, it only goes up to about 40C when stress testing under Prime95.

And it just randomly fluxuates between the two...
