Welcome to the forum, did you check HP's website?

actually, Hp was my first stop, but all my research has pointed to Sm Bus controller being a chipset issue. Which brings me here. I have no clue what my chipset is.

I may be wrong but i thought that ATI Catalyst came with the SM Bus Drivers and South Bridge drivers and whatnot already included. worth a try?

ATi RS482 + S400 I believe... ATI Radeon Xpress 200

The motherboard in your PC is an Asus OEM board IIRC... A8AE-LE

SM Bus stands for S-ystems M-anagement B-us (Systems Management Bus)
The SMBus Controller (or system bus controller) is part of the Intel chipset. It monitors your system board's temperature and voltage. Programs that read your hardware sensors need the controller.

The software to install it should have come with your motherboard. Contact your supplier or its web site for the software. If necessary, you might locate a generic smbus controller driver on the Intel.com site.

I hope it helps...

Nope. I searched there before posting in this topic for you...

OEM stuff is usually not listed on the manufacturers website, but sometimes you luck out and it is.

I had a similar problem - the "Asus" A8NE-FM is actually a board normally provided to OEMs; I was able to dig up drivers after I found out Fujitsu-Siemens actually supports it.

Looks like someone else had the same problem as you did. Also, have you tried using the driver from the recovery CD/DVD you have?

Hi I have just had to reformat and i have a motherboard driver disc for ATI CHIPSET after i had loaded everything and worked through the device manager other devices problems i was left with the sm bus controller problem. having looked various places in desperation i loaded the motherboard disc went back to device manager/sm bus controller and told it to search my cd drive for the driver. it searched the driver /found it/loaded it/ and the error dissapeared from device manager/
i am not that well up on downloading hence the reason i had to reformat

but this cured my problem

hope is as been of help
