I will be buying the AMD Athlon II X4 630 CPU and I heard the stock heatsink isn't good. I was trying to search for a new HSF, but I couldn't find anything that said its compatible with a AMD Athlon II? Is there other kind of fans that fit or something?

Can someone please tell me what information I'm missing?

Any 939/am2/am2 +/AM3 cooler will work.

Mounting plate design hasn't changed in YEARS.

That all depends on what cooler you get!

If you get a cooler that just uses the hooks on the heatsink retention frame itself then what guru says is correct, but some coolers use the holes in the board, for example some of the heavier coolers use their own metal back plate, frame and screws.

s754 & s939 boards have two screw holes.
AM2/AM3 have four screw holes.

If you have an AM3 board then heatsinks sold for AM2+ will work, the vendors are just too lazy to update the specs.
