I have a Barton 2600+ 1.917mhz retail pack h/s/f on a naff asrock K7S8X mobo 256mb pc2700 333mhz bog standard ddr memory Ati radeon 9200se 128mb display card maxtor 40gig 7200rpm ide. it works superb as it is but would like to be able to get more out of it. If i used a better cooling solution and pc3200 400mhz ddr memory and unlocked the multiplier cause my mobo has multiplier jumpers would this be any good. I can overclock by turning up the fsb in bios to 175mhz x 11.5 to just over 2gig before it starts to go pear shaped!!!!!!

It all depends on your cpu stepping. If you have a 'superlocked' cpu, then the only way you can overclock this proc is by upping the FSB. Get faster memory and a better fan and you might get the processor to 3200+ speeds.

Andy

P.S. There are loads of overclocking tips on the forum, a little bit of searching will give you loads of hints...

-------------------------
Athlon XP 2500+ (stock) on an Asus A7N8X with 1Gig Crucial PC3200, 30GB Maxtor and 60GB Seagate Drives (both ATA100), Asus 9560 GeForce FX5600 graphics card, on board sound and dual booting with WinXP Pro and SuSe 9.2 Pro with a 400W Q-tec PSU. Using Firefox and Thunderbird for internet and emails and OpenOffice.org for work.

If it is broken fix it, if you cant throw it out the window and buy a new one.
