I have just installed an ATHLON ll -240 REGOR-65W w/ 2G DDR2 8500 (KHX85002K/2 KINGSTON HYPERX) on a Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H board which lists this processor and memory as compatible. I can not get the system to recognize the 1066 - it immediately resets to 800. Even if use only I stick - 1066 will not hold and in fact will not load wanting to cycle through start up.

Dear Customer
1066 memory should be ok to be used, whether if it can operate at those spec we are unable to determine. Do note that the memory controller is integrated onto the processor

Seldom will they run 1066 by multi. Set it to 800 in bios and OC the HTT reference clock.

If you could expand on that a little I'd appreciate it ... who is they and then I guess, why not .. please understand I am not being contentious, as a hobby builder I depend on the board manual to make my decisions as well as any hardware site ... so if the manual says I can use 1066 I assume that's what they mean. Ironically the blurb on the board says increase your esperience w/1200 DD2
And as I think about it - it is not kicking into DDR2 - either - its unganged ...

built 100,s of athlon II 240 245 and 250 builds.

In order to run higher then 800 Mhz say 1066 I just set it to 800 in bios and up the HTT reference clock (AKA FSB) from 200 to say 222 or 220 ETC.

They will just not run 1066 DDR 2 set by multi only.

They will run DDR 3 1066 just fine.

The OC utility w/ this board allowed me to up the FSB to around 260 which gave me a memory speed of 1044 +/-. Board responed for about 5 minutes when it reset closing W-Xp.
So I guess my question is: which is the culprit - the board or the cpu or the memory.

I have about 10 machines to upgrade and I can't be going through this with every one. We were looking at this board for it's "flexibility". This ain't it. Suppose we went to a Phenom II ....

you have to down clock the multi for the CPU and keep it in the 3 Ghz to 3.2 ghz range bump it,s volts to 1.4 volts

down clock your HTT to 2000 range using the multi

downclock the north bridge multi or give it more volts.
