I am going to be buying an (obviously used) XP3200+ AXDA3200DKV4E (FSB400), upgrading from a current XP2400 (FSB266). I want a bog-standard, genuine Barton 3200 11 x 200MHz so that I can both process more quickly and sync with PC3200 DDR400 memory. The board is capable of this, it's a K7N2 Delta-ILSR.

I am aware that there used to be a lot of fake 3200+s about, and from looking at Ebay I suspect that some of these may be being sold on.

So the question is, how to identify fake ones. I have seen http://fab51.com/cpu/barton/athlon-e23.html and http://fab51.com/cpu/guide/attention_XP3200-e.html but also have seen reference in the AMD forums from 2006/7 to a guide written by Silk_the_Absent1 at http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=35855 . However, that link returns a "page not found".

Does anyone know where Silk_the_Absent1's guide went, or can point me to another one, (or provide any more info?

You could also look at a decent stepping xp2500(2004/2005) which wouldn't cost as much and is quite easily overclockable to xp3200 speed. Little or no risk of those being fakes.

Best option remains an xp-m barton mobile(laptop) - xp-m2400, 2500, 2600 and 2800 cpu which were designed to run at low Vcore(and thus overclock well at 1.6 - 1.7V) and have fully unlocked multiplier.
