I have a Compaq Presario. It has a AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (1,47 GB) on a Compaq 073Ch board. Bus Clock is 133 megHz.

I want to purchase a speedier processor without changing anything else. Will a Sempron 3000+ fit?

You will only be able to install AMD Socket A processors with a maximum FSB of 266 MHz.

In short, this means that the best available processor is the 266 MHz FSB version of the Athlon XP 2600+ (this is an extremely rare processor! /sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /> ).

Honestly, upgrading will not be worth your time at all. Save some extra cash and upgrade to an Athlon 64 system (preferably Socket 939). You'll be much better off!
