I have just read somewhere that the maximum multiplier on the Palomino core XP's is 12.5 and that they go no higher than that.
Can anybody confirm this?

Yes, it's 12.5. HOWEVER, the 2100+ was a bit of an oddball. It used a 13x multiplier, and attempts to unlock it result in dropping the max multiplier to 12.5.
